The L320 Range Rover Sport was developed by Land Rover under the chief design engineer Richard Woolley and launched officially at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2005. It was available to the public in May 2005.
It was launched to the press at an event in Catalonia, Spain, where a fleet of at least 19 05 registered cars (VX05 Dxx and VX05 Exx) were available to test. All the press launch cars were registered during March 2005.
The official first of the line production car is at the British Motor Museum at Gaydon. It is chassis number 900505, and registered BD55 YZZ on 15/12/2005. Hopefully this vehicle will be on display at the newly refurbished British Motor Museum when it opens in the Spring of 2015.
An early pre-production Range Rover Sport with a VIN of 900148 has been found and is now owned by a CVC Register member. This car was registered on 7/12/2004, and was owned by Land Rover for the first part of its life.
